Lauren Lake’s reach is just not within the hip hop community. Her reach stretches to the overall entertainment community and even further to overall American society. How so? This may be the question you ask. Let’s take a look and shine the spotlight on one of the most inspiring women in hip hop, in entertainment, in today’s society.
Lauren began her career as criminal defense attorney in Detroit, Michigan but left for New York to establish herself as an entertainer. This decision is inspiring in and of itself because it’s an example that it’s never too late to follow your dreams and passions. It also demonstrates the bold action required to make your dreams and passions a reality. In New York, she established herself as a vocalist, musician, and performer singing background and touring with some of hip hop’s elite — P Diddy, Mary J Blige, Jay Z, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg. In addition to that, she has written and produced songs for artists signed to Sony Music and J Records. Today she writes and records her own music and performs throughout the New York metropolitan area. This part of her career would be satisfactory to most but not to Lauren. There was more to accomplish in her entertainment career.
Lauren set out to conquer television as a legal expert and life skills coach. Given her educational background and the decisions she had made in her life, she’s well equipped to deliver straight talk on legal issues, race, politics, women’s issues, and pop culture. She has turned her life into a platform to help others or shall we say the masses because television reaches millions everyday. She has appeared on popular shows including “Dr. Phil” show, “Meet the Faith”, “My Two Cents”, “The Greg Behrendt Show”, and “The Ricki Lake Show”. Network television loves her! They’ve placed her on MSNBC, CNN, Fox News Channel, CNBC, and BET. She turned that exposure and experience into becoming the host and designer of HGTV’s “Spice Up My Kitchen”. It’s safe to say she conquered television and achieved her goal of building an entertainment career.
Lauren’s career and what she has achieved is inspiring in and of itself. But, what’s even more inspiring is her motivational speaking to fight for and empower others. She uses her skills, life experiences, and career success to help others. She advocated for Hurricane Katrina victims so vigorously that Dr. Bill Cosby selected her as a motivational speaker on his nationwide “Call Out” tour, which reaches out to inner city communities to provide educational support, and awareness of social services organizations that help empower families to create better lives. She has an upcoming book, “Girl! Let Me Tell You…” to motivate and encourage successful single women. She saw the need to bring women together in entertainment and strengthen them so she co-founded Women In Entertainment Empowerment Network.
Lauren Lake is an example of what we all can accomplish if we put action into our dreams, passions, and goals. She’s living proof that we can do and be whatever we would like. For these reasons, she is a true Hip Hop DIVA.
